ScientificKids™ Class Structure
Circle Discussion
Children gather together for a discussion about the specimen to be studied. The educator asks the children questions about the specimen to find out how much they know. The educator reads an engaging book to the children about the specimen they will be studying.
Laboratory Exploration
Grouped in twos and threes, children examine their specimen using a stereoscope and/or magnifying glass, while the educator continues the lesson. Questions are posed to the children to help them develop their critical thinking skills.
Science Notebook
For each specimen studied, children will document their specimen in their science notebook. Children draw or color, and label the specimen studied. This helps the children to develop their writing and fine motor skills. Additionally, they may do an experiment with the specimen.
Science Activity
To reinforce the day’s lesson, each class session includes a fun activity related to the specimen studied. Science activities may include a craft, project or book reading to reinforce what the children learned during the class.
Q&A Discussion
Each class session is concluded with a Q&A discussion. The educator asks the children questions about what they learned that day. The purpose of the Q&A discussion is to reinforce key concepts learned during the class.
